Best Ways to Modify your Truck for Speed

How can you make your truck faster? This question might sound strange to people that use their trucks for regular purposes. However, it makes a lot of sense to individuals with experience in the truck racing arena.

Trucks are typically built with power in mind. But there are ways to make them faster. And even if your truck is more than fast enough, you might be surprised by how easy it has become to increase its horsepower.

Some effective means of modifying your truck to give it more speed include:

1). Tune-Up

This might sound like a pointless suggestion to truck owners but it is very important. If you just bought a new vehicle for the purpose of truck racing, don't assume that it is ready to deliver all the power and speed you need to win.

You have to service it. That means giving it an oil change, adding new spark plugs, replacing the filters, etc. Some trucks are slower than expected simply because the previous owner wore them out. A simple tune-up will refurbish them, allowing the vehicles to display the speed and power that made you buy them.

2). Gas

This is another factor that truck racing enthusiasts rarely consider. The gas you use matters. Low octane gas won't permit your truck to perform at its best because it has so many chemicals. Look for high octane gas that can elevate your vehicle's performance.

3). Exhaust

A lot of trucks use stock mufflers that do nothing for their efficiency. This is why so many racers experiment with aftermarket exhausts that are designed to give their vehicles a serious kick. By pairing the right exhaust with the right manifold, you will do wonders for your truck's horsepower.

4). Intake

Do you have a cold air intake? If you don't, you should think about getting one. It works by feeding the engine with warm air that it took from outside and then cooled. The right intake will increase the amount of available oxygen. This will enhance the efficiency of the combustion process, increasing the amount of power the truck has at its disposal.

If you have the sound baffling, you can also trust the new intake to remove it. The sound baffling matters to people that hate the amount of noise their vehicle generates. But they probably don't realize that it also adds some restrictions to the performance of their truck.

If you want to enhance the power and speed of the truck, you can start by using the cool air intake to remove the sound baffling.

5). Cargo

This goes without saying. If you have any cargo, you should remove it before you participate in a race. The weight a vehicle is carrying will affect its acceleration and speed. If you want the vehicle to perform at its best, remove every single item that adds to its weight. Make it as light as possible and it won't disappoint you.

Some people will go so far as to remove the seats in a truck. This makes sense in a race because you don't have to carry any passengers.
